The Facts….

  • In 2019 (pre COVID-19), nearly 41% of Arizona's K-12 schools were rated a C-F letter grade.
  • Only 17.4% of Arizona's principals are leaders of color.
  • According to Grissom et al. (2021) principals have a broader impact on student achievement compared to classroom teachers.
  • Traditional training programs do not prepare principals to lead school transformation.
  • Traditional principal training program of the past has widened not closed the persistent achievement gap.
  • Research show that a high percentage of underperforming schools are disproportionately populated by minoritized students and led by principals unprepared to lead school transformation.
  • Ineffective principals are correlated to student learning loss especially students of color.

There is a need to diversify and bring innovation to Arizonas school leader pipeline.

Transforming Leadership...

School leader preparation is in need of an overhaul in order to meet the needs of today’s students. 

Leveraging new Arizona legislation, Arizona Academy of School Leadership (AASL) will be the first of its kind to serve as an alternative training provider leading to certification by the district or charter school. With our innovative, equity-centered curriculum, vetted school partners will grow their own diversified pipeline producing certified transformative school leaders. Our program will prioritize leaders of color in order to diversify the talent pipeline. AASL leaders will exit our academy ready to implement the proven skills and strategies used by Dr. Strozier to transform underperforming schools.

District, charter, and private schools can also partner with AASL to leverage our curriculum to build capacity of current school leaders of CSI, TSI, and ATSI schools.

A multi-ethnic group of elementary age students are learning the places of the world by looking at a globe in geography and history class.
